The people of Haiti have complex beliefs towards mental health that can be barriers to provide good care and preventive actions. This complex relationship between cultural beliefs and mental health presents another challenge to provide culturally competent care.
Our mental health support & education combined with the Psychological First Aid (PFA) program provided psychological and emotional support to individuals affected by the 2010 earthquake and other individuals in need of emotional support.
The PFA is presented through individual counseling, support groups, social events, and psychosocial education workshops. We’ve learned collaboration with the community is the best way to meet, see, and care for the people who are hesitant to receive biomedical care.
