Our Focus on Cervical Cancer

Because of the high incidence of cervical cancer, which is caused by the HPV virus, we decided in 2015 to expand our Mission and Vision to include preventive health care for women, with an emphasis on reproductive health, beginning with a focus on cervical cancer.

In mid-2016, we plan to implement and provide the “See & Treat” method of detecting and treating pre-cancerous cervical lesions, saving the lives of countless women in our community and surrounding areas. As a part of this program,  we also will develop outreach, educational, referral and support programs for women.

Pre-teens who are a part of our School Health Program (SHEP), which annually reaches over 2,000 students within our partnered schools, as well as pre-teens who live in the Fonfrede and Les Cayes area will have an opportunity to be vaccinated against the HPV virus. This vaccination program will dramatically decrease the occurrence of cervical cancer among the young girls who are vaccinated as well as decrease the suffering of both young girls and boys related to the complications caused by the HPV virus.

Our Growth and Future Forecast

Through our existing programs, and with the addition of these new preventive services, CapraCare’s vision to develop sustainable preventive health care and community health programs can be realized. This vision can then be replicated throughout Haiti, connecting women, their children, their families, and their community for positive health change.
